UGC NET Entrance Exam 2024 Date will be released on the official site. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct UGC-NET (merged cycles) for ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ and eligibility for ‘Assistant Professor’ in 82 subjects in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

Eligibility Criteria For UGC NET vs CSIR UGC NET

UGC NET

General/ Unreserved/ General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/ institutions recognized by UGC (available on the website, ugc.ac.in in Humanities and Social Science (including languages), Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. A list of subjects at Post Graduation level is attached as Appendix -V. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer/ Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/ Third gender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

CSIR UGC NET

B.Sc (Hons) or equivalent degree holders or students enrolled in Integrated MS-PhD program with at least 55% marks for General (UR)/ General-EWS and OBC candidates; 50% marks for SC/ ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates are also eligible to apply. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree will be eligible for CSIR fellowship only after getting registered/ enrolled for Ph.D./ Integrated Ph.D. program within the validity period of two years. M.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ BS-4 years/ BE/ B. Tech/ B. Pharma/ MBBS with at least 55% marks for General (UR)/ General-EWS and OBC candidates and 50% for SC/ ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates

  • JRF: Not more than 31 years as on the 1st day of the month in which the examination is concluded i.e. 01.06.2022 (This age limit is applicable for the current examination only).
  • Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit in applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor.
  • JRF: Maximum 28 years as of 01/07/2020* {upper age limit may be relaxable up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/Third gender/Persons with Disability (PwD)/ female applicants and 03 years in case of OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) applicants}. * This age limit is applicable for the current examination cycle only.
  • Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.

UGC NET vs CSIR UGC NET: Exam Pattern

The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of objective-type, multiple-choice questions. There will be no break between papers. And the time duration given for the exam is 03 hours (180 minutes) without any break. All the questions are compulsory.

Similarities between UGC NET and CSIR NET Exams

  • Conducting body: NTA is conducting both exams.
  • Exam Purpose: UGC NET & CSIR NET Exams Purpose is to shortlist candidates for the post of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professors.
  • Frequency of exams: Both the exams are conducted twice a year in June/ July and November/ December months.
  • Qualifying Criteria: The Qualifying Process is the same for both exams. And in both the exams, the top 6% of qualifying candidates are declared eligible for lectureship, and about 2% To 3% of candidates are shortlisted for both JRF and lectureship.
  • Assessment: In both the UGC NET & CSIR NET Exams, candidates are assessed on their general aptitude as well as subject-knowledge
