IIT Kharagpur Law Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for LL.B.

• First Class Bachelors Degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medicine or equivalent.
  OR
• First Class Masters Degree in Science or Pharmacy or equivalent.
  OR
• First Class MBA Degree with any of the above
• If the degree awarding institute does not explicitly mention “First Class” then the eligibility will be a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 on 10 point scale.

The CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks if the degree-awarding institute provides marks in the CGPA system. Then, the admission will be based on the CGPA awarded in the transcript. If the CGPA is on a different scale other than 10.0, the eligibility of the candidate will be calculated corresponding to the equivalence stated above.

Eligibility for LL.M.

• First-class (or equivalent) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B./ B.L. (5 years) program from any recognized University.
• First Class (or equivalent) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B./ B.L.(3 years) program from any recognized University along with Bachelor’s Degree (not less than 3 years) in Humanities/ Science/ Commerce or equivalent.
• If the degree awarding institute does not explicitly mention “First Class”, then the eligibility will be a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 on 10 point scale.
• The CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks if the degree-awarding institute provides marks in the CGPA system. Then, the admission will be based on the CGPA awarded in the transcript. • Students pursuing LL.B (Hons.) in Intellectual Property Law from the IIT Kharagpur in the academic year 2021-22 with a final CGPA of 8.5 or above are eligible for admission in the LL.M program without appearing in this entrance test.

CBT contains two papers

Part I consists of the following sections:

• Mathematics 15 marks
• Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) 35 marks

Part II consists of the following sections:

• English 60 marks
• Logical Reasoning 20 marks
• Legal Aptitude 70 marks

Note:

• There will be multiple choice-based questions
• There is no negative Marking.
• To get shortlisted for the second round i.e. PI, it is mandatory to obtain a minimum of 35% marks in each of Part I and Part II of CBT.
• Only shortlisted candidates who qualify for CBT will be called for PI.
• For final selection, PI is compulsory.

The final merit list will be based on: CBT 70% weightage, PI 30% weightage.
