GATE Exam Dates 2026
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and seven IITs — Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee. It is held on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. For GATE 2026, some subjects may be conducted in multiple sessions. However, each candidate must appear for the exam in only one session of the selected paper.

GATE 2026 Exam Duration
All GATE 2026 exam papers will have a total duration of 3 hours. The test will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Once the 3-hour time limit is over, the exam screen will automatically close, and no further actions will be allowed. Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre early, as they will be allowed to occupy their assigned seats 40 minutes before the exam begins.
Candidates appearing for GATE 2026 will be allowed to log in and read the exam instructions 20 minutes before the scheduled start time. However, late login is strictly monitored. The system will not allow candidates to log in after 30 minutes from the actual start of the exam. Under any circumstances, logging in late beyond this limit is not allowed. Also, candidates cannot leave the exam hall before the completion of the full 3-hour exam duration.
